QUALITY HEALTH & SAFETY

WORKING AT HEIGHT POLICY

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all risks associated with working at height within Power-Tech Pakistan Pvt. Limited workplaces are identified and managed. The company applies this working at height policy to any employee or employers who may be exposed. This policy applies to all tasks that require working at a height which are performed in Power-Tech Pakistan Pvt. Limited workplaces.

All PPE clothing and equipment should be of safe design and construction and should be maintained in a clean and reliable fashion. Power-Tech Pakistan has defined the following EN standards of work at height PPE kit that fully comply with the industrial standards.

All staff that uses tower scaffolds, ladders, and stepladders must undertake training, from a certified trainer, which gives them the awareness of the hazards of using the equipment and what to inspect including pre-use visual inspection checks to ensure such equipment remains in good working order. training should also include the rescue.

REGULATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS

LIFTING AND HOISTING

Chain hoists, derricks, cranes, and other hoisting equipment shall be inspected at regular intervals. It will be operated by persons who are qualified and competent to operate it and possess a valid permit to operate it. Any hoisting equipment found defective shall be immediately tagged as unsafe and not used until repaired.

Before the load is lifted, a strain should be taken on the cable, and the hitch and slings rechecked for security. When there is a danger of the load being suddenly released the hooks shall be snubbed with wire or shackles.

Before operating crane, derrick, or other hoisting equipment, the operator shall sound warning and accept only one person’s signal to start raising, lowering, or swinging load however, the operator shall stop immediately upon a signal from anyone.

When making heavy lifts, Outriggers shall be used to prevent overturning. The outrigger shall rest on a secure and firm surface. Extreme caution shall be used when working near cables or ropes under tension. Never place oneself within the angle formed by ropes or cables under tension.

Chains shall not be spliced or joined by make-shift means such as open links, bolts, or wire. New links shall be inserted by some competent person. Wire ropes or cables should not be allowed to kink as this weakens their basic strength. When applying U-bolt clips to cables, the proper number and spacing shall be used and the base shall bear on the pulling side of the loop.

The rating of hooks, rings, clevises, and other fittings used on chains or cables shall exceed the carrying capacity of the chain or cable.

The designated team should have proper knowledge and certification for the designated task. The team must follow all the safety procedures by using proper PPE.

The team should have a work order/NOC before starting the work. The site should be analyzed beforehand for all the possible scenarios. Pre-post alarm should be activated and a picture must be taken of the planned activity as evidence. Once the activity is completed, take approval and acknowledgment from the OCMR and concerned engineer.
